HEDNESFORD TOWN boss Gavin Hurren has marked a year in charge at Keys Park by guiding his side to the top of the Northern Premier League.
The Pitmen beat Cleethorpes Town 1-0 on Saturday – thanks to a second half Dan Trickett-Smith goal – to dislodge leaders Warrington Rylands and move two points clear.
It leaves Hednesford on course for a second successive promotion after coming up from the West Division last season.
Hurren and No2 Lee Vaughan left Stratford Town 12 months ago and immediately set about taking the Pitmen to the next level.
Hednesford have now won five successive games as they bid to reach National League North.
Hurren told the club’s YouTube channel: “When we came into this club 12 months ago, I think we were four or five points off relegation.
“And look how we’ve grown, how we’ve established ourselves in that 12 months, in the sense of going on runs, breaking records that have been held for years, to producing and attracting players that we have to now.
“The lads here have got themselves to the top of the table after 17 games. So it’s a credit to that dressing room, and everybody working so hard off the field, the fans supporting home and away, to what the football club are doing as a team and as a collective. It’s just an amazing feeling.

“But you’re only as good as your last game. We can say we’ve just won five on spin, but this league’s very tough.
“We’ll train on Thursday and go again on Saturday away Ashton. So it’s relentless. But me and Lee couldn’t be any happier in the sense of what those boys are giving this club and myself every Saturday and Tuesday.”
