HEDNESFORD Town have named a ‘fantastic pedigree’ team – as Kelvin Davis takes over as new manager.
He will be joined by Danny Butterfield as his assistant – with the duo set a target of taking the Pitmen out of the Northern Premier League.
They replace Gavin Hurren and Lee Vaughan who were both surprisingly sacked earlier this week.
That was after chairman Craig Gwilt said the team’s results did not match up to amount invested in the club.
Davis was manager of National League side Eastleigh for 18 months until he was sacked last September.
Hednesford’s Director of Football, Andrew Reed, said: “Kelvin and Danny come from fantastic pedigree and know exactly what it takes to operate at the highest level.
“Kelvin, himself learning off a number of highly rated managers and being a pro license coach, we believe will bring us the direction we need to take us over the line.
“They both understand what’s needed to drive standards every single day. We’re delighted to welcome them to keys park and excited for what we can achieve for the rest of the season.”
Hednesford remain level at the top of the table with Hebburn after the two drew at Keys Park on Tuesday.
Davis will be in charge for the first time on Saturday, when the Pitmen go to relegation-threatened Hyde United.
Hednesford said the new coaching team arrived at Keys Park on Tuesday to meet players and staff.
A statement added: “This is a major appointment for the football club, bringing proven pedigree, professionalism and real experience of the game at the highest level.”
Davis holds a UEFA Pro Licence and, as a player, he had a long career as a goalkeeper across the EFL and Premier League, with spells including Luton Town, Wimbledon, Ipswich Town, Sunderland and Southampton.
He is best known for his time at Southampton and played a key part in the club’s rise through the divisions.
The club say he has also built strong coaching experience since retiring, working within professional environments and most recently stepping into a management role, bringing leadership, elite standards and a calm authority that will be invaluable in the run-in.
Butterfield made his name as a versatile and dependable professional, featuring prominently in the EFL and at Premier League level, with clubs including Southampton and Crystal Palace, among others.
