HEDNESFORD Town sealed a memorable season at the weekend by beating Congleton Town to seal promotion to the Northern Premier League.
The Pitmen’s West Division campaign took them agonisingly close to the title after a revival under new boss Gavin Hurren.
That meant they had to go through the play-offs to reach their target – and a semi-final win over Vauxhall Motors set up Saturday’s clash with Congleton at Keys Park.
The game attracted a huge 4,701 crowd – a new attendance record and a Step 4 play-off record.
Jake Jervis set Hednesford on their way with a penalty seven minutes into stoppage time.
But Hurren’s side had to wait until the 94th minute to seal the game through Jack Bearne.
The presentation to the team was delayed due to a medical emergency in the crowd which meant an air ambulance had to be called and the stadium evacuated.
But the jubilation among the players later was plain to see, as our photos show.
