ALVECHURCH boss Tim Flowers admitted his side have got to find a way to ‘stop chucking away points’.
Flowers’ side stunned Southern League Premier Central title chasers Kettering Town at Latimer Park on Tuesday by opening the scoring early on.
But Alvechurch let the game slip in the second half and lost 2-1 – a result that followed Saturday’s stoppage-time defeat at Bedford.
Church went ahead when Erik Savkin’s ball was met by Archie Crowther who headed home from close range.
But Kettering levelled six minutes after the break through Wes York – and Isiah Noel-Williams scored the winner with 14 minutes left.
Flowers told the club’s official YouTube channel: “I can’t fault the effort, we took the lead with a terrifically worked corner, great delivery, great run patterns, good timing.
“But I don’t remember Dale Eve in goal having to make that many saves during the game.
“I said at half-time, we’ve given away far too many free kicks around in the box. I said, do not invite pressure in the second half by giving away silly free kicks.
“Within the first 10 minutes of the second half, we give five free kicks away on the left hand side, round about the the 18 yard box – and just invited balls into the area.
“Their equaliser was a really poor goal to concede from our point of view. But we never looked out of the game at all. We always carried a threat. But then their best player by an absolute country mile wants it more than us and smashes it in the net. It’s such a poor goal to concede.
“What we’re guilty of in the last two games is finding a way to chuck away a point, or more, but certainly at Bedford, we’ve got a point in our hand when the board went up with 90 minutes.
“So, we’ve been fairly comfortable in two games against two top three sides, but we found a way not to get on the right side of the line. So that’s the disappointing thing.”
Redditch United went down 2-0 at Stamford with Toby Liversidge and James Blunden scoring either side of half-time.
Boss Matt Clarke told the club’s official YouTube channel: “It was a tough night, but we looked strong for 40-odd minutes, it was working, we defended really well.
“Then we made a really bad mistake for their first goal and we were 1-0 down at half-time, but
“But we didn’t look a threat, and we didn’t have a shot on target.
“We conceded a second goal from another set play, which is how it’s been the past couple of months.”
