JACK Bearne – one of Hednesford Town’s key men last season – has left Keys Park to join Oxford City.
Nottingham-born Bearne will go down in the Pitmen’s history as the player who scored the goal that sealed the club’s promotion to the Northern Premier League last season.
He grabbed the decider in the West Division play-off against Clitheroe at Keys Park.
But Bearne, 23, will now play for Oxford, who are part of the National League North.
A statement from Hednesford reads: “We can confirm that an undisclosed compensation fee has been agreed for Jack Bearne to join Oxford City for the 2025/26 season.
“Jack has been an outstanding player for the Pitmen and will always be remembered as our Play-Off Final hero, securing the goal that sealed our promotion – a special moment in club history.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to wish him all the very best at Oxford City. You’ll always be part of our story, Jack.”
Bearne, who began his career as part of the Liverpool Academy, posted on social media and added: “Thank you to everyone at the club who welcomed me from day one.
“Your support last season was unbelievable, and we wouldn’t have got promoted without you.
“I’ll never forget that goal in the play-off final, which will stick with me forever! I wish you all the best in the future.”
Bearne, who also played for Kidderminster on loan, told the Oxford City website: “As soon as the gaffer spoke to me a few weeks ago about the project and the identity of the club then, you know, it definitely made my mind up that I wanted to come in and be at home.
“I had National League North experience in the National League couple years ago, but obviously last season was about getting games really and getting a good solid season.
“This is a brand new exciting change for me for this season, which I can’t wait to start. It was a no brainer all to be involved so good decision.
“I like to see myself as a wide man who can support create chances and score goals, really contributing.
“The intensity and the style of play the team has it really resonates with me. Liverpool were quite a high pressing team when I was younger and that suits me.”
