HEDNESFORD Town moved to second spot in the Northern Premier League on Tuesday night – after a 2-1 win over Hyde United at Keys Park.
Dom McHale and Joss Labadie struck in the first half to set up the points in front of a crowd of 1,260 – but Lewis Rawsthorn pulled one back after the break.
The Pitmen are now four points behind leaders Warrington Rylands with a game in hand.
Hednesford boss Gavin Hurren told the club’s official YouTube channel: “I think it was an exceptional performance.
“From minute one, we were the better team.
“We knew Hyde were a good football side, but it was two fantastic goals from us.
“And just really, really happy going in at half time, but it’s always not a nice score 2-0, and we knew that, we spoke at half time about it.
“But the guys drive their own standards. Credit to Hyde, they had nothing to lose.
“Their goal was a little bit sloppy there, but we did well in wet conditions, to dig in and see out and the game. It was just a really good, solid performance towards the end.
“To the fan, it probably seemed a little bit twitchy, but I felt confident that we were going to come away with the points.
“They got their goal and then it was throw everything forward. I just thought it was good game management and we deserved that.”
Hurren admitted he felt the heavy rain might have affected the attendance – but was pleasantly surprised.
He added: “It meant a lot. They got us over that line, because on another day, and we’ve been here long enough, teams can fold. But we don’t. It was all down to the players, but also those fans, so thank you.”
