KIDDERMINSTER Harriers boss Phil Brown says his side should have been ‘out of sight’ before Leamington fought back to earn a point on Tuesday.
Harriers made it 10 points from the last 12 as they maintained their play-off push.
But Brown was left to reflect on what might have been after Ashley Hemmings gave Kidderminster the lead just after the half hour mark.
Harriers could not build on that though – and George Ward equalised for the Brakes after 67 minutes.
Brown told Kidderminster’s official YouTube channel: “When it comes into the final stages of a game, you think you’re still going to – I wanted to say nick it – but it shouldn’t have been that situation.
“We were 1-0 up and it could have been a lot more than one, but I’ve said that many times this season.
“I didn’t think with the mentality that we’ve been shown in the last two or three games, that we needed a second goal. But when Leamington made their substitutions, they made a big impact to the game.
“Give them credit, it’s never an easy place to come to. To a certain extent, the pitch isn’t really conducive to a great game of football, which doesn’t quite suit our style.
“When it comes to the final score being 1-1, is it a point gained at places like Leamington, you’d probably have to say yes.
“But the way we played in the first half, and two thirds of the game, we should’ve been comfortably out of sight when they got their first goal.”
The result leaves Harriers in fourth spot, but there is only a three point gap between them and Buxton in ninth.
Brown added: “We’ve been looking up the table for the majority of the season, and we’ve been top on a couple of occasions, we know what it feels like.
“Then you’re there to be shot at. There’s a number of teams that’ve been up there and not really survived at that level.
“There seems to be a fear of running away with it for whatever reason. People tend to run into bad form as well as they run into good form at this level. I don’t know why, but we’re in a rich vein of form – 10 points from 12. But I’m disappointed that we’ve thrown two points away here. It could’ve been 12 from 12 going to South Shields on Saturday, but we’ve got to keep the season alive.”
