KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS boss Adam Murray admitted he had to change things around after a choppy start to the season – and was rewarded with an ‘outstanding’ display at South Shields.
Murray says his side beat what he considers to the best side in the National League North this season.
Goals from David Davis and Kam Kandola guided Kidderminster to a 2-1 win in the North East.
It was a result that left Harriers fourth in the division – 13 points behind leaders Fylde.
Murray told the club’s official YouTube channel: “I made a decision in my head, I wasn’t enjoying a second of it. But I’ve got to do what’s me.
“So, the boys had the game plan, I asked them to carry it out and they did. We stuck to it. They ran through brick walls.
“The win’s the most important thing, but I thought the way we were was tremendous.
“South Shields are the best team I’ve seen at this level for a long time, and it shows where they are in the league and what they’ve done to teams this season.
“I just felt if we gave them too much respect and we dropped off and and tried to be safe, they would have got the better of the game.
“So we picked a team to go after them. They are the best possession-based team in the league and we’re the best pressing team in the league, so it was always going to be an interesting clash.
“But it could have been five at half-time with the clear chances we created from the press.
“Then it was about discipline, and the boys were outstanding, they deserve the credit.
“It’s been a strange first part of the season, but we all stuck together.”
- AFC Telford drew 2-2 at home to Southport with goals from Remi Walker and Matty Stenson.
Bucks boss Kevin Wilkin told the club’s official YouTube channel: “We brought about our own problems, we didn’t start the second half as well as we finished the first half.
“We had a nice platform to build from but I didn’t get the players up to understanding they were going to react after the break.
“One’s never enough in a game. We didn’t do enough to merit all three points.”
