JAPAN striker Kyogo Furuhashi has completed his move from Rennes to Birmingham City.

The clubs have been in talks over the past few days – and the player has arrived at St Andrew’s for a fee in the region of £10million.

Six months after arriving at Rennes in a deal worth around £12million from Celtic, Furuhashi, 30, has become part of Birmingham’s busy transfer market activity.

Reports had suggested the two clubs negotiated a transfer that could, with bonuses, reach the amount paid by Rennes.

Furuhashi has only appeared in six Ligue 1 matches in the second half of the 2024-2025 season – without scoring a goal.

But he has made 23 appearances for Japan and scored five goals.

Furuhashi spent four years at Celtic – where he scored 63 goals from 116 games.

Kyogo Furuhashi was at Celtic for four years

It is part of flurry of transfer activity at St Andrew’s over the past week.

And there could be another Japanese player coming in with midfielder Kanya Fujimoto believed to be in talks over a free transfer.

Wide man Bright Osayi-Samuel, 27, signed on Thursday after his contract at Turkish side Fenerbahçe came to an end.

The Nigeria international told Blues’ official website: “I spoke to the owner, I spoke to the manager, and it’s a project with ambitions about what they want to do.

“Those are my ambitions too. I want to play in the Premier League and show everyone what I can do, and I think Birmingham City are giving me a platform to showcase that so I think those are the main reasons I decided to come here.

“Playing for the biggest team in Turkey by a margin was an honour. I learned so much, I feel like I was a kid and they turned me into a man.

“I’m very grateful to Fenerbahçe, they did so much for me, and I’ve learned so much.

“Coming to Birmingham City now is another step for me, an opportunity to show everyone where I’ve been for the last four years.”
