BIRMINGHAM City will play Nottingham Forest in a pre-season fixture this summer to honour the late Trevor Francis.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s Premier League side will go to St. Andrew’s on Saturday, August 2, to face newly-promoted Blues.
The Trevor Francis Memorial Match involves the two teams that agreed a transfer fee that will be forever remembered, with the Englishman becoming Britain’s first ‘million-pound player’ following his move to the City Ground.
Two years after his passing, the day will start with a series of celebrations from 1pm to commemorate his life, which will include the unveiling of a statue in his honour at St. Andrew’s.
It will be located in front of The Kop – a lasting tribute to a true club legend – before a 3pm kick-off.
Last year’s pre-season game against Rangers was the inaugural Trevor Francis Memorial Game, and the club will once again be remembering the legendary striker in a game against another of his former sides.
He later returned to St Andrew’s as manager between 1996 and 2001.
Before heading to the East Midlands as a star player, Francis scored 113 goals in 330 games for Blues having joined at the age of 15.
Making his Blues debut aged just 16, Francis spent nine years at the club, with his form earning him his full England debut in 1977.
He would go on to make over 50 appearances for the Three Lions, scoring 12 times.
