LEAMINGTON boss Paul Holleran celebrated his side’s first win of the season – and now prepares for Monday’s Midlands derby at Kidderminster.
Ewan Williams scored twice as the Brakes beat Radcliffe 2-1 in front of 556 at the Your Co-op Community Stadium.
Holleran told Leamington’s official website: “In all four games we’ve had our moments and created chances.
“This league is unforgiving. You can play well in a half, like we did in the first half, and then all of a sudden you’re 1-1, and it was important to mentally try and get going again.
“They had a player sent off and he momentum swung back to us. The important thing this year is being able to use the five subs, and having a bit of depth in the squad, with the quick turnover of games, being able to get fresh legs on has slightly changed things.
“There’s not a lot of National League North experience in the squad. They’re learning on the job.
“I can see that they are. Some of the young players are doing really well, so there’s a lot to like from that first batch of games there. The tough thing now is trying to recover for Kidderminster Harriers on Monday. It’s always lovely to get that first result. It could have come on Tuesday – it didn’t, but it came here.”
Kidderminster Harriers boss Adam Murray was frustrated after Harriers lost 2-1 at Fylde.
Sub Thompson levelled for Harriers with all the goals coming either side of the break.
But it was Jonathan Ustabaşı’s second half goal that decided it.
Murray told Harriers’ official YouTube channel: “That’s the best we’ve been for nearly half an hour, first to half. I felt we had to be two or three there.
“We played some great football, with real intensity, real purpose, and you’re thinking, ‘this could be three or four’.
“And then, they have a moment which I felt we gave them. And the whole momentum’s from there. But every single goal we’ve conceded so far has been us.
“Basic individual errors. There’s a lot of work on the training ground that goes into these.
“But if people aren’t going to take the shirts there will be changes because I can’t accept some of the things I’ve seen in terms of goals can see so far. It’s just it’s not where it needs to be.”
