PAUL Holleran surveyed the benefits of a ‘good week’ as the Brakes shot up the National League North table.
Nine points from victories over Oxford City, Warrington laid the platford and yesterday’s 3-0 triumph over troubled Farsley Celtic has lifted them away from danger.
Defeats to Rushall Olympic and Marine had clearly focused the minds of management and players at the New Windmill Ground.
And their response this week has put clear water between them and the pack fighting for survival near the foot of the league.
There is now a 13-point buffer between the Brakes and the bottom four. With a markedly-improved goal difference, the last seven days should relieve that pressure and enable the club to look upwards ahead of the run in.
A clearly-delighted Holleran told the club’s website: “I think after the Rushall and Marine games, it’s been difficult. With the players this season, it’s been one step forward and two back.
“We can’t get that momentum. So, this week that’s what we were trying to do.
“Could we keep going forward? Could we be aggressive enough? I think you saw that today.
“Yes, we have made good decisions off the pitch with our selections for different games and the players have carried it through.
“It’s been a good week for me, the staff and players and if you can get nine points in a week the league table looks completely different.”
The Brakes have found considerable profit from their deadball routines.
Farsley paid the price for faling to clear Henry Landers’ fifth-minute corner with Ewan Williams bundling home the first.
The same combination provided the second on the half hour and Landers – who is becoming increasingly-influential now Cally Stewart has moved on – added a goal of his own after Will Shorrock’s assist to round off the scoring on the hour.
Holleran added: “I knew if we could get to the right levels and our application was good, these three games were games we could get something from.
“I also knew that the games coming up are going to be really difficult. I’m sure we will be fine but there are some tough days ahead.
“But getting that buffer of those points on the board should give us confidence, going forward.”
