DAN Turner struck late to gave the Brakes the points as boss Paul Holleran said: “We deserved that.”
The on-loan striker finished off at the second attempt six minutes from time during an eventful encounter at Oxford City.
The three points was welcomed by Holleran’s men who have relied upon their form at home to keep them away from relegation trouble.
But it was far from comfortable afternoon as the visitors needed keeper Callum Hawkins to save a first-half penalty to keep the scores level.
The value of that was seen when Henry Landers gave them the lead six minutes after the interval.
Zac McEachran levelled with 15 minutes to go, only for Turner to come up trumps after a sustained spell of pressure following a free-kick reaped reward.
A delighted Brakes’ chief said: “Oxford are good here. They throw in the odd result here, which is strange. But they played the best non-league side in the country here last week, Forest Green, and managed to beat them which is strange.
“So for us to come here and deserve victory – and it wasn’t a backs to the wall job – Callum has had very little to do. We dug in when we had to. There was a lot of grit and determination but a lot of quality too.
“We’re a team that’s had it tough on the road this season. Most of it has probably been our own doing but have taken some difficult decisions. The character we have shown to keep going.
“I was delighted for Dan Turner, he worked hard today. And Henry Landers was brilliant, absolutely on another level.”
