BOTH Hednesford and Chasetown boosted their Northern Premier League West play-off hopes with crucial wins on Saturday.
The Scholars produced a dominant 4-0 win against Kidsgrove Athletic – courtesy of two own goals and a red card for visiting goalkeeper Kieran Harrison who brought down Jack Langston.
That meant stand-in keeper Tom Pope having to face a penalty which Langston converted after 16 minutes.
Kidsgrove had to play the majority of the game with 10 men and a Harry Goode own goal, on the stroke of half-time, made it two.
That is the way it stayed until the dying minutes when George Cater added a third with six minutes left and another own goal, this time from Jack Bromfield, made it four in the 87th minute.
Scholars No2, Jamie Hawkins, told Chasetown’s official YouTube channel: “That’s three wins on the spin, three clean sheets on the spin.
“The way it panned out was probably a little bit better than expected, to be honest with the sending off, which naturally helps us, and ironically, it also took away one of their biggest threats with Pope ending up in goal.
“But now we’re getting the results that we deserve. It can only be good for morale can’t it?”
The result leaves Chasetown in fifth spot, two points behind Hednesford who won 1-0 at Hanley Town thanks to a seventh minute goal from Olly Harrison.
But the Pitmen have now gone eight games unbeaten in the league, and recorded three successive wins.
