TIM Flowers warned that there will be no coasting for his Alvechurch squad ahead of the run-in.
After coming out on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline at play-off hopefuls Stamford, the ex-England ‘keeper set out his stall.
He insisted he ‘didn’t want to see (Alvechurch) giving teams a leg up’ after the club at Lye Meadow managed to find themselves in a mid-table position.
He said: “When you lose, it’s hard to find positive sometimes. They give everything they’ve got.
“But that’s a pre-requisite. That’s a must, especially if you’re playing for me. There’s a lapse in concentration. They’ve seen the rest of the game out, 75 minutes or what it is.
“I’m already looking at how we are going to take this team forward and be a threat to the play-offs.
“We have made a real fist of getting away from the bottom. Until today, the lads have taken 30 points from 45. That’s play-off form.
“We want to be competitive between now and the end of the season. I don’t want to see us giving teams a leg up.
“If you can’t get up for Kettering, Leiston and Sudbury at home, then you’re not going to be here.
“But they’re a good group.”
Elliott Durrell’s ninth-minute effort settled this in a game where there was little goalmouth action.
Flowers added: “It was a war of attrition – an absolute war of attrition. We started slowly. I didn’t think we looked like scoring.
“The only real chance we had was a free kick and there was a fantastic delivery. Three or four could have thrown themselves at it, but didn’t.
“They had the breeze behind them in the first half and pinned us in. They landed on seconds, put balls in behind us.
“Stamford have a massive side. Phsically, they’re huge. If you’re not savvy enough to track runners and land on seconds, you’ll get done.
“We haven’t tracked him or passed him in. I didn’t think either side looked like scoring after that. Ronnie hasn’t had to make a save, neither has their lad, either.
“In the end, if you want to get out of the division, you have to stop falling the wrong side of the one-goal margin.”
