CHASETOWN completed a big six days for the club by securing their place in the Northern Premier League West play-offs.
And they did it in style with a 6-0 hammering of Hanley Town on Monday.
After beating Rushall Olympic 4-1 to win the Staffordshire Cup, the Scholars stayed on a roll to make sure of their top five spot.
Chasetown opened the scoring against Hanley when breakthrough when Jack Langston fired home.
Kieran Fenton’s header made it two before the break – with George Cater adding an impressive third before making it four soon after.
Sub Jay Clement grabbed his debut goal as he curled home the fifth goal of the day – and then rounded off the scoring with another impressive goal.
Hednesford’s hopes of overhauling Widnes for top spot were dented when they were held 1-1 at Stafford Rangers in front of over 2,000 at Marston Road.
Kaiman Anderson put Stafford ahead after only two minutes, but Jake Jervis levelled for the Pitmen with five minutes to go.
Hednesford are still three points behind Widnes, with both at home for their final league games this Saturday.
Gav Hurren’s side host Runcorn Linnets, with Widnes at home to Trafford. Each has the same goal difference, but Widnes only need a point to seal promition.
Boss Hurren told the club’s official YouTube channel: “When we came into this building, it sounds silly but it was about surviving – we were in a relegation battle.
“Now we’re talking about taking it to the last game of the season.
“I’m immensely proud of what the boys have achieved, what the whole club I’ve achieved from when we’ve come in, and I’m really looking forward to it. I think it’s going to be exciting.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the fans there packing out the place on Saturday. And I believe, if we turn up, we get three points, then anything can happen.”
But Hurren admitted it was frustrating to take a point from Stafford.
He added: “I was really looking forward to this game, having a really good go, toe to toe, and it sort of fizzled out a little bit.
“I was disappointed with the early goal that we conceded. But we knew they’ve got a strength in that long throw, and they use it really well.
“Obviously they work on it. But credit to the boys. They dusted themselves off, and, for me, it was only one team in it.
“We had some great opportunities, we showed character, we showed the belief. We carried on trying to turn the screw. And I think we got our rewards with the goal.”
