RUSHALL Olympic boss Ian Long said his side’s victory on Saturday was a case of ‘owing everybody one’.

The Pics won 2-1 against Cleethorpes Town at Dales Lane with goals from Liam McAlinden – who scored a spectacular opener – and Jake Burgess.

Adam Haw scored a consolation from the penalty spot but Rushall held on for the points – a victory which leaves them 13th in the Northern Premier League with games in hand.

Pics manager Long told the club’s official YouTube channel: “It’s been a while.

“I think we owed everybody that one to be fair, we were a pretty awful last Saturday.

“It was just really pleasing that the lads reacted in a positive way. I thought we deserved it.

“Obviously, it was squeaky bum the last couple of minutes when they got the penalty – which was harsh again.

“The opening goal was a great strike. Probably only him and maybe one or two others on the pitch could strike it as well as he did.”

Hednesford went to league leaders Lancaster City and came away with a 0-0 draw.

Pitmen No2 Lee Vaughan told the club’s official YouTube channel: “That looked more like one of our performances, it was a real hard earned point.

“We could have nicked it at the end, but also so could they. Sometimes we get very frustrated, but we’ve come to top of the league team and come away with a point. It  wasn’t the worst result result in the world.

Hednesford gave minutes to two of their recent new signings – Max Sheaf and Jermaine Hylton.

Vaughan added: “Max worked his socks off. But it was a difficult game for him.

“This isn’t Max’s ideal game on a tough pitch. Jermaine was fantastic when he come on. I can’t wait to see him on a decent pitch, because when he moves with the football, he’s very good.”
