HEDNESFORD Town have issued an encouraging update following the medical emergency at the end of their play-off final game with Congleton Town last Saturday.
The game saw the Pitmen win and gain promotion to the Northern Premier League.
But a medical issue saw Keys Park evacuated so that an air ambulance could attend to a spectator who had been taken ill.
The club have now provided more information and confirmed that, thankfully, the man is now in a stable condition and talking with his family.
Hednesford’s statement says: “At last Saturday’s game at Keys Park, a serious medical emergency took place in the stands. It was a moment that brought out the very best in people.
“We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who stepped in to help, from those who gave life-saving CPR, to those who shielded the gentleman’s privacy, made makeshift pillows to keep him comfortable, cleared walkways, supported medical staff, and showed care for one another in a time of crisis. Your quick thinking and kindness made a vital difference.
“We’d also like to thank our on-site medical team, the ambulance service, the police, and the Midlands Air Ambulance for their swift and professional response. To our volunteers and staff – thank you for working so calmly and seamlessly during such a difficult moment.
We’re pleased to say we’ve spoken to the gentleman’s family and are overjoyed to confirm that he is stable, talking, and even joking with his wife. He remains in hospital while awaiting further tests, but the family is hopeful he’ll be home in the coming weeks.
The family has asked us to pass on their thanks to everyone involved, and all the assistance given. They told us: ‘We want to thank you all so much for anyone that helped in getting my father the [medical] attention he needed. [We] really cannot express how much we owe to all that helped, we will never forget this.’
