HEDNESFORD Town have apologised to fans and Stockton Town – after being forced to postpone Tuesday night’s Northern Premier League fixture due to a floodlight failure.
The game was called off shortly before the re-scheduled 8pm kick-off time as the referee said the game could not start.
Pitmen officials are now working with Stockton to fix a new date for the game.
Stockton and their supporters had made a 170-mile journey from County Durham for the game.
Hednesford issued a statement on their official website, explaining what happened.
It reads: “We were so excited to welcome everyone back to Keys Park for what promised to be a great night under the lights.
“Unfortunately, those very lights had other ideas.
“Despite all systems being fully operational earlier in the day, a significant floodlight fault occurred shortly before kick-off.
“Our operations and ground teams, alongside external electricians, worked urgently to resolve the issue, but with lighting affected in some stands and safety always our top priority, the referee had no option but to postpone the fixture.
“Postponing a game is never an easy decision.
“Everyone at Hednesford Town shares the frustration and disappointment felt by supporters, players, and volunteers – and we’d especially like to thank the travelling Stockton Town fans who made the journey to Keys Park.

“We’re now working closely with Stockton Town and the Northern Premier League to confirm a new date for the rearranged fixture, which will be announced as soon as it’s confirmed.
“We’re deeply sorry that everyone missed out on a night of football – especially our visitors and the travelling Stockton Town supporters who made the journey.
