HEDNESFORD and Chasetown remain in the Northern Premier League West’s play-off spots – despite both drawing blanks on Saturday.
The Pitmen hosted leaders Widnes at Keys Park in front of 1,148 supporters.
But there was no joy for Hednesford in front of goal – although they had the satisfaction of denying Widnes the chance to extend their lead.
Gav Hurren’s side also extended their run to nine games.
Pitmen No2 Lee Vaughan said Hednesford ‘threw the kitchen sink’ at the Cheshire side – and that Widnes came for the draw.
Vaughan told the club’s official YouTube channel: “I think we deserved more.
“I thought there was only one team coming to win the game, and that was clear. It was us. But we started exactly how we wanted to start, on the front foot. It was aggressive. We knew we had to be,
“We threw the kitchen sink, and in the end, unfortunately, couldn’t get that goal. On the whole I couldn’t be more pleased.
“If we’re being ultra critical, we went a bit too direct, too early for our liking, but having said that, we still created some fantastic opportunities.
“Ultimately, we’ve come up short against a very good side, and they’ve come and got probably what they wanted out of the game.”
Chasetown went to Mossley and drew 0-0 in front of 365 fans at Seel Park.
Sam Unitt came close to scoring for the Scholars when he hit the post.
But it was a day when, despite creating chances, Mark Swann’s side could not find the net and they stay in fifth spot behind Hednesdford.
