SOLIHULL Moors have named ex-FC Halifax Town boss Chris Millington as new first team manager.
Millington takes the place of Matt Taylor who parted company with the Moors last month.
He steps into the role after James Quinn took charge on an interim basis – and will be joined by Andy Cooper as his Assistant Manager.
Moors Chairman Darryl Eales said: “I’m delighted to welcome Chris and Andy to Moors.
“They did an outstanding job at FC Halifax Town and both have a wealth of experience at this level and across the game more generally.
“From our first meeting, I was impressed with Chris’ vision and ambition and his excellent fit with Moors as a club and our culture.
“I also think Chris and Andy will work very well with Quinny, who I’m delighted is remaining a key part of the coaching team. I am sure they will also build great relationships across the whole club.
“I am sure everyone will join me in wishing them every success at the club and look forward to introducing them to staff and fans in due course.”
Millington, 50, has an impressive track record from his time at FC Halifax, where he was appointed First Team Manager in 2022.
In his first season, he took the West Yorkshire side to Wembley glory, lifting the 2023 FA Trophy.
The following campaign saw Halifax finish seventh in the National League, securing a play-off place before narrowly exiting in the quarter-finals against the eventual finalists – Solihull Moors!
Millington added: “I’m absolutely delighted to be given the opportunity to join the Moors.
“I’ve always admired the way the club is run and the way it has competed in recent years.
“Meeting Darryl and a number of the staff gives me great enthusiasm for the job.
“I also believe we have the makings of a competitive squad that can be successful in the Enterprise National League.
“Both Andy and I are looking forward to working with Quinny. We are fully committed to driving the team forward and we can’t wait to meet the fans.”
Cooper brings extensive experience across youth and senior football, having coached within Leeds United’s academy system before taking on senior roles at ASPIRE Academy Qatar, Punjab FC and then FC Halifax Town. Cooper’s expertise and pedigree will provide invaluable support to Millington and the Moors’ first team.
He said: I’m really excited to be joining the Moors family alongside Chris. Solihull Moors is a club that Chris and I know well and I’m looking forward to working alongside Quinny and the existing staff as we start our next chapter together.”
The appointment comes the day after Moors went down 3-0 at home to Woking on Tuesday night.
Olly Sanderson, Aaron Drewe and Josh Kelly claimed second-half goals as Woking ended a four-match winless run.
Fulham loanee Sanderson, who struck the crossbar in the closing stages of the first half, prodded home the opener in the 50th minute following Drewe’s cross.
Defender Drewe went from provider to scorer 11 minutes later by superbly heading into the top corner.
Solihull forward Jacob Wakeling almost halved the deficit when his effort was cleared off the line before substitute Kelly – on loan from AFC Wimbledon – put the result beyond doubt against his former club by firing low into the net 14 minutes from time.
