STOURBRIDGE boss Darryl Knights says his players have ‘got to start learning’ after letting a two-goal lead slip on Wednesday night.
The Glassboys were in charge before the break against Worcester City thanks to goals from Jez Abbey – from the spot – and Fin Holmes.
But Worcester hit back in the second half with Nathan Hayward pulling one back just after the hour mark – and Paul Downing securing a point in the third minute of stoppage time.
It left Knights wondering what might have been on a night when they could have climbed the Premier Central Division significantly.
He told the club’s official YouTube channel: “I’m very frustrated and I think we weren’t at it for the first 20 minutes, but we got ourselves in the game.
“Then there was a lapse and that makes a game of it,
“At 2-0 we were very comfortable. I felt we were on top but that kind of shifted the momentum a little bit as well.
“Could we have held on to the ball more? Definitely. There’s only so much I could say, we’re a young group, but they’ve got to start learning – we spoke about that in the changing room.
“We’re still going to school when we’re winning 2-1. There’s three minutes to go. Just take it into the corner, just kill the game off for three minutes.
“That’s the little bits of game management that I think we can do better. But even then, we’ve got to stand up and be men to defend at the end.”
Worcester boss Chris Cornes told the club’s X account: “A 2-0 down, I don’t think many of our fans would’ve thought of us getting out of it.
“I’m not taking anything away from them, but they could’ve been four up at half-time with the chances they’ve had.
“So I’ll settle for a point. We’ve had a lot of the ball, but we didn’t really hurt them.
“We just need to be better in front of goal, and in that final third and when we get into the box. But we’re work in progress, and hopefully we get better as the weeks go by.”
