HEDNESFORD boss Gav Hurren spoke of his pride at the Pitmen’s run of 14 games unbeaten.
A comprehensive 4-0 win at City of Liverpool kept Hednesford hot on the heels of leaders Northern Premier League West leaders Widnes.
Hurren’s side are still seven points off top spot, but goals from Olly Harrison, after 10 minutes and Dom McHale, 14 minutes later, put the Pitmen in control before the break.
But they crowned the display off with two goals inside the final 60 seconds of the 90 minutes – Simeon Maye and Niall Watson finding the net.
Hednesford have not lost since December – and even if they cannot overtake Widnes, they should have huge momentum to take into the play-offs.
Hurren told the club’s official YouTube channel: “It’s a fantastic run. Everybody within the club, I mean, the fans, the board, the chairman, and all the players, we’re all working together and all on the same page.
“We knew it was going to be tough. We’ve brought some fantastic players in, and it’s just something you’ve got to enjoy, because football can have a funny way of coming around and kicking you in the bum.
“But as it stands at the minute, the train’s moving. We’re driving our standards. The lads are training on Tuesdays incredibly well – and that comes out on a out on a match day.”
Hurren said the game at City of Liverpool was never going to be easy – even though they are bottom of the table.
He added: “I felt it was a tough game. They were never going to lie down enough and accept where they are in the league, because that’s just when pride kicks in.
“And they’ve got some good players. They didn’t stop running to the last whistle. We just had to have a professional performance. I felt we’ were a better team, and if we delivered what we can, then we’d come away with three points. I thought all the lads did that.”
Chasetown maintained their play-off push thanks to a dominant second half display at home to Bootle in front of 680 fans.
Kieran Fenton opened the scoring after 64 minutes. But two goals in the space of four minutes from Sam Unitt and Joey Butlin sealed the points.
The Scholars stay seven points ahead of Avro in sixth spot and are on course for the play-offs along with Hednesford.
Assistant manager, Jamie Hawkins, told the club’s official YouTube channel: “We weren’t poor first half, but we’re a little bit passive.
“Too many passes going sideways, going backwards, and whilst we got good possession, we didn’t really ask many questions.
“So yeah, that was the message at half time. You know, go and go and play with a little bit more purpose. Play in better areas of the pitch, and just generally, try and be a bit more effective, which we were. t doesn’t really matter.
“It’s seven points today. We play in the cup on Tuesday, and then we go to Stalybridge next Saturday. So that might not be seven points then, we really are just focusing one game at a time.”
