TAMWORTH boss Andy Peaks says his side did ‘everything they needed to’ after their impressive victory at Boreham Wood on Saturday.
Manny Duku scored a second-half winner as the Lambs ended a run of three National League defeats.
The Hertfordshire side have their sights set on automatic promoition to the EFL – but Tamworth upset the form book.
Wood began to dominate early on and they were rewarded when Matt Rush slotted the ball in at the far post after an assist from Jeff King – following a corner – for his 12th league goal of the season midway through the first half.
But Tamworth hit back nine minutes later as captain Ben Milnes fired in the equaliser from the penalty spot.
Zak Brunt came close to putting Boreham Wood ahead on the hour mark before his effort was cleared off the line.
But it was the visitors who took the lead as Duku netted on the counter-attack, with 18 minutes left, to clinch maximum points.
Peaks told the club’s official YouTube channel: “The lads were going to enjoy the trip back, they were going to have a beer, which I wanted them to do, they’ve all got jobs to go back to Monday.
“You have to enjoy these days because they don’t come around very often and they’ve earned the right.”
Peaks knows Tamworth pulled off a superb result against one of the National League pacesetters.
He added: “I think they could’ve gone joint top if they’d have won, their record speaks for itself, they’re full of good players and create loads of chances.
“So we knew we had to be really at our best to get anything, and the lads stood up to it really well.
“It was up to us to stand up and be counted and stay in the game. They got their goal, but we looked a threat on the break in before we scored. We hung in there, and I was delighted to then get two goals and turn it around.
“You’re going to have to ride your luck at times, and we did – and you’re going to have to show loads of character, and they did.
“We’ve got a week now to prepare for Rochdale next Saturday. But first, the lads need a rest, they’ve had a really busy week to go to Forest Green the other night and play for 90 minutes almost with 10 players and put a real shift in – and then to come here to play one of the top teams.
“That’s sapped a lot of energy and we’ll go again next week, ready to put in another shift.”
