BIRMINGHAM are hoping to make it back-to-back home wins when they host Sheffield on Monday (June 16, 7.30pm).
The Curtis Sport Brummies defeated defending Champions Belle Vue 47-43 in the West Midlands a fortnight ago as they delivered a determined display in front of the Perry Barr faithful.
And even though they lost Rising Star Jason Edwards to a shoulder blade injury in Heat Two at King’s Lynn last Monday, they still put up a brave fight in Norfolk despite being on the wrong end of a 49-40 scoreline.
Sheffield Tigers arrive in the Second City three points off the top of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership standings – but they have lost their last three fixtures.
And Brummies’ CEO Nigel Tolley is hoping that is something his side can capitalise on.
“Sheffield had a really strong start to the season at home, but their last three away meetings have shown they can be beaten,” Tolley said.
“Don’t get me wrong, they’ve got a number of riders who usually score very well at Perry Barr and Sedgy (Justin Sedgmen) is now in their team and Leon (Flint) has also been riding very well for Sheffield this year.
“But we showed against Belle Vue that we can grind out wins against the big teams in this league and that’s what we’ll be going all out to do on Monday.”
Sam Hagon makes his latest debut for the club after being signed as an injury replacement for Edwards in the No.7 berth.
Meanwhile, Sheffield have booked former Brummie Zach Cook to guest in place of the injured Anders Rowe.
There is also second half racing at Perry Barr on Monday with the Birmingham Buffaloes facing Wolves in the Midland Development League.
