DAN Mousley admitted that Bears did plenty right on Saturday night against Nottinghamshire Outlaws – but found it was not quite enough.
Warwickshire had been looking for a second successive Vitaliuty Blast victory, but ended up losing by six wickets to their East Midlands rivals at Edgbaston.
Mousley (53) and Tom Latham (69) had put on 116 for the second wicket after the early loss of captain Alex Davies, for eight.
Bears’ total was further boosted by Ed Barnard (23) and Moeen Ali (34) as they moved to 206 for seven from their 20 overs.
But Outlaws went for it with openers Joe Clarke (30) and Lyndon James (50) providing a solid platform.
Nottinghamshire were held up by Mousley who claimed two wickets – Clarke and Jack Haynes.
There were also economical spells from Danny Briggs and Moeen as Bears took it down to the wire.
But the decisive innings came from Outlaws’ Tom Moores ended the night unbeaten on 74.
Mousley was disappointed with the outcome but said there were more positives for Bears to take from the game.
He told the Bears’ official YouTube channel: “The way Tommy played was fantastic, he struck the ball so cleanly, maybe both of us were a little bit slow to to get going.
“The wicket was quite a bit bouncy, you almost had to try and get yourself in.
“I spent two out of the last three games in the middle with Tom and he’s a really calming influence on me at the top of the order. To get us up to a decent score was was pleasing.
“We always are about trying to get 200 – that’s the way we want to play, quick and aggressive. I thought the boys at the back end played beautifully to get us up to 200 and we thought it was a good score – but it proved not quite enough.
“I want to win games with Warwickshire and to be on the losing side, is a bit disappointing.
“As a player, you want those opportunities to try and win the game for your team and here it just didn’t quite come off.
“We’re playing some really good cricket, but we’ve we’ve come in second in some tight games and that’s just cricket.
“It can be quite fickle because there are some days when it goes your way, some days it doesn’t and here, it didn’t quite go our way, but we’re still in a good place. There’s so much talent in the dressing room and we’re still playing some really good cricket, so we’ve got to keep on going.”
