BOTH Solihull Moors and Tamworth have been handed home ties on the opening day of the new National League season next month.

Moors will play host to Forest Green on August 9 – a match which will see former Birmingham City midfielder Robbie Savage take charge of the Gloucestershire side for the first time in a league game.

Solihull boss Matt Taylor is set to field a much-changed side following a number of summer signings arriving.

But the cameras are likely to be trained on Savage after he took over from ex-Blues manager Steve Cotterill after Forest Green missed out on promotion.

Tamworth will be reunited with their former National League North rivals Scunthorpe United at The Lamb.

Just over a year ago, Andy Peaks’ side won promotion to the National League, with Scunthorpe missing out in the play-offs.

The game should attract a sizeable opening day of the season crowd to Tamworth – with Peaks again looking to keep his side in the division after an impressive campaign.

But an all-Midlands clash between Solihull and Tamworth will be played on Boxing Day at the ARMCO Arena – with the return in Staffordshire on Good Friday, April 3.

In National League North, Kidderminster Harriers are at home to Scarborough Athletic on the opening day.

The match marks new Harriers’ manager Adam Murray’s first league game in charge after Kidderminster sacked Phil Brown after his team fell in the play-offs.

Leamington are away at Curzon Ashton, while AFC Telford go to King’s Lynn and Hereford are at Spennymoor.
