ALVECHURCH have been handed an all-Worcestershire tie at home in the first round proper of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
Tim Flowers’ side drew 0-0 at Basford United on Saturday – and won 5-4 on penalties.
Alvechurch will now play Worcester City at Lye Meadow on October 25.
Midfielder Kyle Storer told the club’s official YouTube channel: “It was a really tough game, due to the opposition.
“They had a way of playing. We had them watched in the week.
“But the conditions played a massive part, so it was tough to get into it.
“It was good to have a break from the league and and we’re full of confidence.”
Redditch United also needed penalties win – after another goal-less draw.
They beat Cleethorpes Town 5-4 in the shoot-out and Redditch will now play at home to Gainsborough Trinity in the next round.
Redditch boss Mike Fowler told the club’s official YouTube channel: “We won and we’re buzzing, but we needed some harsh truths as well.
“Before the game, I said this stinks of 0-0 and penalties. But our penalties were fantastic.
“The subs that came on were a positive for us. But it was a mixed bag.”
Stratford Town will go to Anstey Nomads after beating Sporting Club Inkberrow on Saturday.
But the Bards left it late after going behind with 12 minutes left – with 10 men after Dan Laffarty was sent off.
Lewis Ison equalised with five minutes left – and Harry Reilly made it two in stoppage time.
Stratford manager Paul Davis told the club’s official YouTube channel: “There were a couple of positives, first was Ison and another great strike.
“But the attitude to go and get the ball with 10 men and not much time left, I actually thought: ‘What are we doing?’
“Go and celebrate in a corner and take it to penalties. But I’d questioned the desire and the attitudes in the first half, and that probably shows you that they have got a little bit of desire and attitude and they wanted to win the game and full credit to the players, because I would have, at that point, happily taken penalties.
“I’ve been on about Harry Riley’s shooting in games for a long time and that was the best way to do it. He’s been excellent in training and took his goal really well.”
Bromsgrove Sporting will go to Leek Town in the next round after 3-0 win at Baarwell – with goals from Billy Shaw, Jack Newell and James Sanderson.
Halesowen lost 2-1 at home to Leek Town, and Rushall Olympic were beaten by Spalding United.
Evesham United were beaten at home by Ilkeston Town.
