BRADLEY Goldsmith – the middleweight with a Sky Blue army of fans – has landed a title fight in his home city.
The marauding prospect will bid for a Commonwealth international belt on Scott Murray’s huge show at Sports Connexion on Friday, March 27. His opponent has yet to be announced.
News of the 10 rounder adds further weight to a show knee-deep in Coventry talent. Local boxers already booked included former European champ Danny Quartermaine, English champ Jess Barry and Midlands champ Minaaz Gurung. Exciting heavyweight newcomer Joe Guest Bourne can be guaranteed to provide big hitting action.
Goldsmith’s noisy barmy army will ensure a packed house. For the exciting 26-year-old, trained in Sheffield by Dominic Ingle, the date is an important step in the journey towards top honours.
“It’s a bill with some good local talent,” Bradley said. “I think there are two or three titles fights, including me.”
Goldsmith, a former stand-out amateur for Triumph, has lost only one of 15 in the paid ranks. That defeat came in his first appearance on a major arena show against Midlands champ Troy Coleman.
The local favourite went for broke too early, ran out of gas and was stopped in the seventh.
That’s not belittling the bravery and durability shown by Coleman, but the challenger’s naivety undoubtedly played a part.
Since that setback, Goldsmith has bounced back with two victories, one in Dubai. He’s learned an important lesson from the loss.
“I want direction and progression this year, that’s what I’ve said to my team,” Bradley told me.
“I’m out in the first quarter (of the year) and fighting for a title, I can’t complain. It’s now down to me to come up with the goods.
“It’s one fight at a time and I’m fully confident of doing the business on March 27.”
Goldsmith believes he has what it takes to capture the Lonsdale Belt – this year is about making that surge to the top. He’ll do it backed by a huge fanbase.
Goldsmith added: “I count my blessings every time. I know how lucky I am to have so many people want to turn up for me.”
When he began his professional journey, he told me: “I want to climb up the ladder. I know my ability and my team know my ability.
“I’m slowly, but surely, turning myself into a future star.”
That star looks set to shine brightly in 2026.
