CALLUM Singh eases back after his first pro loss with a rust-shedding four rounder on the March 27 Sports Connexion, Coventry, show.
The talented fighter, a product of Brendan Norman’s Bulkington gym, will face Jack England. The Brentwood boxer has won only one of 16 (one draw), but has only failed to hear the final bell on one occasion.
Callum, a quiet individual outside the ring, will be having his first outing since being stopped by Scottish puncher Lennon Mulligan last June.
Fighting in Glasgow and with the Commonwealth youth title on the line, Callum showed real grit before a body shot took everything out of him. He took heavy shots and waded back in.
Before that, 23-year-old Singh had stacked-up seven wins. In October, 2024, he outpointed Midlands super-flyweight champ Sean Bruce on a bitter-sweet night.
The bout was to be for Bruce’s belt, but Singh failed to make weight and the contest went ahead as a non-title eight rounder.
Brendan Norman is adamant his fighter, tall and sinewy at 5ft 7ins, can still get down to super-fly: what happened against Bruce was a miscalculation, he stressed. Manager Jon Pegg harbours doubts: “he’s young, he’s sill growing.”
As for Singh, he just wants meaningful fights.
“Anyone, anywhere,” he said. “I’m not afraid of any man with boxing gloves. This time I will stay in the gym, get the win and look to be in the mix for big fights.
“When I fought Lennon Mulligan, he was number two in Britain, I was number 10. There are a lot of things to work on, but I know the level I can achieve. If a British title fight came up, I’d grab it with both hands.”
As for the weight division where his future lies, Callum said: “I do have a very good nutritionist and last time I made bantamweight easily.
“Let’s see where the opportunities come up. I know I have a good manager in Jon Pegg and he has my best interests.
“But I need to win on March 27, I don’t want to look past my next fight because there may be nothing next if I don’t win that. That’s why I’m taking it very, very seriously.”
Pegg said: “March 27 is about getting Callum back in the swing. Get him a few wins, a smaller title fight, then look for something bigger.”
