BIRMINGHAM Brummies are preparing for a sad day in speedway history next month.
The club have issued a statement admitting there is ‘no current prospect’ for them to ride at another venue next year – with Perry Barr Stadium due to be closed and redeveloped.
Brummies chief executive, Nigel Tolley, said in May that the team would have to fold.
But now it appears that any chance of being able to relocate has gone.
Tolley said in May that, with Perry Barr greyhounds moving out to make way for stadium development, Brummies would not have a home track.
Tolley admitted the writing was on the wall for speedway in Birmingham ahead of this season when he forecast that 2025 would be the club’s last campaign.
But the club are trying to make sure their supporters get to give the team a good send-off.
A statement said: “We are sadly coming to the end of our time at Perry Barr, and with no current prospect of an alternative venue, we have been giving thought to arrangements for the last meeting.
“We want those who have supported us loyally over the season to have the best opportunity of being there and, to this end, you will be able to buy a ticket for the last meeting when you purchase admission for any of the four meetings on 21st July and 28th July, 4th and 11th August.
“This ticket will be valid for whichever is the last meeting at Perry Barr – currently expected to be the league meeting v Leicester on Bank Holiday Monday, 25th August, but obviously this may change if we have to re-arrange any of the prior meetings. There will be no change to the admission prices.”
