BCB Promotions have unveiled their marquee show of the year, with two Midlands title fights taking place on the June 14 WV Aldersley Stadium bill in Wolverhampton.
Dubbed ‘Bragging Rights’, the vacant Midlands super-featherweight title will be on the line as Wolverhampton’s Brandon Bethell squares off against Birmingham’s Nico Ogbeide.
For both, the jump to championship class has come after only six contests. Bethel, a 23-year-old with a huge following, has lost one. A draw is the only blemish on 30-year-old Ogbeide’s record.
Also on the night, Dudley’s talented featherweight champ Ryan Griffiths makes the first defence of his title against Jack Dillingham, from Chesterfield and unbeaten in six as a pro.
Expect the most noise to be generated by Ogbeide and Bethell. Brandon’s ringwalk is a “happening” on its own, with Oasis anthems blaring out and a mass gathering of chanting, flag waving Wolves fans.
The sound they generate is at a roof-raising level. It will be cranked up to “11” for this one.
And that is a prospect Ogbeide relishes.
On social media, he posted: “June 14th right in his back garden, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
He told me: “I went to a show in Wolverhampton and Brandon was on it, I’d never seen him before. His fans were the loudest there and I told the person I went with, ‘if I got a Midlands title fight and could pick my opponent, it would be him, here’. Ask and you shall receive.
“I’m looking forward to silencing them and bringing the belt from Wolverhampton to Birmingham. The fighters I’ve faced so far, it’s been difficult because a lot of them have been running away, really.
“I’m a back-foot fighter. Against Brandon, I’ll be big enough and strong enough to push him back when I want to and I have the skill to box on the back-foot when I want to.”
The show also features unbeaten Ollie Cooper, Jamie Edwards, Jacob Lloyd, Gabriele Strikaitye and Adam Mohammed.
The card will also showcase the professional debuts of promising newcomers Ebonie Cotton and Josh Ralph.
