MATEJ Zagar says he cannot wait to return to British Speedway ahead of his Birmingham debut at home to Leicester on Monday (March 24, 7.30pm).

The Slovenian star first raced in the UK in 2003, and rode for the likes of Trelawny, Reading, Swindon and Eastbourne before settling down at Belle Vue between 2013 and 2016.

He then focussed on racing commitments on the continent for a number of years before returning to the Aces’ side when they won the top-flight in 2022.

After a couple more seasons away again though, the Curtis Sport Brummies were able to tempt him back to the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.

And speaking ahead of the Knockout Cup tie against Midlands rivals Leicester, Zagar says he was pleasantly surprised his new home surroundings were actually quite familiar.

He said: “I’ve never been a Brummie before but I know this track from before as an away rider and nothing has changed.

“I turned up at the stadium and everything is the same as it was 11 or 12 years ago whenever it was I was last here.

“But we’ve met now as a team, many different riders from different countries but luckily everyone speaks good English so we’ve got no problems there.

“I simply love racing in England; I first came to the UK in 2003 and I’ve always really enjoyed it here.

“Everything is so simple here, I just love the way we race in England.”

Tickets can be purchased on the night, but they are also available to buy in advance via: trybooking.com/uk/events/landing/79197?

Anyone unable to attend the stadium on Monday can stream the action live via: brummies.tv
