BIRMINGHAM Moseley will aim to bounce back from an opening day defeat in their first home game of the season on Saturday.
They will host Leicester Lions at 3pm kick-off against a free-flowing side from the East Midlands.
Director of Rugby Adam Balding and the team are focused on fighting back after the frustration of an opening round loss – 26-12 – away at Bishop’s Stortford.
A sending off for hooker Sam McNulty left them playing with 14 men for much of the game.
But now Moseley want to kick start their season as they look to build on the success of two successive top half finishes in National One.
Despite the loss, Balding reflected on positive performances from debutants and looked ahead to an exciting fixture.
He said: “All five debutants equipped themselves really well, they were fantastic to a man.
“Josh pierce came on at 9, Nick Bingham was exceptional at prop and we had great performances from Woody Pugh and Harry Reed at centre as well as Sam Clarke on the wing, the energy they’ve brought to the squad is great to see.
“Leicester Lions like to run the ball and bring a real attacking threat, but we have to back ourselves, and our key to success is accuracy, if we’re accurate we know we can compete, and with both sides looking to play rugby it will be an entertaining game to kick start our home fixtures.
“We have to get the show on the road after last weekend.”
The club will be encouraging all local residents and rugby supporters to come to the game.
Gates will open at midday, with plenty of entertainment and food and drink options available for all the family.
Balding emphasised the importance of a big crowd to the performance of the players.
He added: “The home crowd at Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club really make a difference.
“When we have a packed house, and the crowd are noisy, they’re the 16th man. It gives the boys a lift, and it’s a special place to be. Playing at home in front of our supporters is always special, and we know we’ll need their energy to get over the line.”
