BIRMINGHAM Moseley Rugby Club have announced a number of new roles aimed at helping develop more homegrown players – and bridge the gap between junior rugby and semi-professional rugby.
Dan Lavander takes on the role of Club Development and Pathway Manager, and he will liaise with Adam Balding, Sam Pointon and Morgan Dawes.
The club says Lavender’s role will involve providing mentoring and coaching support to mini and junior coaches, monitoring junior player development, and identifying / working with players in a new Performance Group, which consists of outstanding current or recent Colts players showing promise to make the step up.
Club stalwart Pointon will work in a transition coach role with this group, delivering skill development sessions, individual development plans and mentoring.
This is alongside his new coaching role with Birmingham Moseley.
Fan favourite Dawes, who made his way through M & Js / Colts / Oak into Birmingham Moseley as a player himself, is running small group strength and conditioning sessions for the club’s junior players to build their explosive power and speed, develop foundational strength safely an boost their athletic IQ.
Director of Rugby Balding said: “As he is involved with most sections of the club, having Dan to identify up-and-coming talent at Birmingham Moseley helps us achieve the sustainable model we are looking for.
“Working with quality individuals like Sam and Morgan will only strengthen this further.”
