ADAM Collingwood has become Bournville’s Mr Versatile since his summer move from Kenilworth.
Collingwood arrived at Avery Fields as a scrum-half but, apart from a pre-season friendly against Silhillians, he has yet to feature in that position.
The form of Reiss Price is only part of the explanation as Collingwood has started in all four Regional One Midlands match so far this season and played out of position in each of them.
He scored a try in each of his first two matches playing on the wing against Nuneaton and Bridgnorth and then switched to inside centre for the home wins over Stourbridge and Drybrook.
With Bourns missing several key backs through injury and with only three replacements permitted at this level of the league pyramid, Collingwood’s versatility and adaptability have been invaluable.
“When you have a scrum-half like Reiss Price who doesn’t make many mistakes and has that X-factor, he’s going to play a lot of minutes,” said Bournville Forwards Coach CJ Osazuwa.
“Adam is here to compete with Reiss and, good on him, he will get minutes there. So far he’s played pretty much every other position except scrum-half.
“At this rate Adam is going to end up playing the most minutes this season and good luck to him. It’s such a skill set to be as versatile as he is.
“I don’t think he’s missed one training session, he’s such a dedicated young man so he deserves everything he gets.
“It’s a shame he’s not playing at nine but when you play such a specific position you are not always get the minutes you want there.
“He’s a top bloke, he’s is the guy that every club wants. He has the position he prefers, he has the skill set to be a nine but he is also a big body so he hasn’t looked out of place at 12.
“He’s done a job on the wing and I also think he’s the kind of guy who could do a job at six or seven. He’s actually said he would be happy to play in the back row if we needed him to.
“We are really lucky to have him. He just wants to play rugby and he deserves every minute he gets.”
