HEDNESFORD Town attracted the biggest crowd in the Northern Premier League on Monday – and larger than many non-League games.
But the Pitmen missed out on a holiday win against West Midlands rivals Rushall Olympic in front of 3,162 at Keys Park.
Ahkeem Rose opened the scoring after nine minutes, but Aaron Bishop levelled for the unbeaten Pics with five minutes left.
But Pitmen No2 Lee Vaughan says the newly-promoted side are holding their own.
Vaughan told the club’s YouTube channel: “We’re new to the division and we’re not going to win every game. but I think it’s’s a decent start. We’re up in and around it, where we want to be.”
But while Hednesford had to settle for a draw, Vaughan recognises that the ex-National League Pics are already challenging for the top spot.
He added: “I thought performance wise, it was really good on the back of two defeats, against a decent outfit, a possession-based side that are going to be in and around it at the end of the season.”
But Vaughan says another big crowd is a major boost for the club.
He added: “That was bsolutely outstanding, it was a really good atmosphere, I know they had trouble getting in. But once they did, they backed us again.”
