RUSHALL Olympic are the new leaders of the Northern Premier League – knocking Hednesford off the top spot.
Roddy McGlinchey struck the only goal of the game – just after the hour mark – against Ashton United at Dales Lane.
The result takes the Pics onto 10 points from their opening four games and ended Ashton’s unbeaten start in the process.
But it was a rare off-night for the Pitmen who went down 3-0 at Prescot Cables.
Hednesford had taken command of the early stages of the season with a three-out-of-three 100 per cent record.
Gavin Hurren’s side had also won nine of their last 10 competitive matches.
But they came crashing down to earth on Merseyside, with Prescot’s Ben Elliott scoring a hat-trick.
Prescot manager Steve Daley said: “I think the performance was the best since I’ve been involved.
“Everyone in the squad was fantastic. We weren’t great on Saturday, and I asked for a reaction. To every man, they were unbelievable, and I can’t give them enough credit. “I just thought we were unplayable.”
With both West Midlands sides staging an early promotion challenge, it is all set up for a big derby clash at Keys Park on Bank Holiday Monday.
