HEREFORD FC fans staged a demonstration against racism ahead of Tuesday’s replayed FA Cup tie at Sporting Khalsa.
The original game last weekend was abandoned when Khalsa’s goalkeeper Ravan Constable, was racially abused by a minority of travelling Bulls fans.
Both sides spoke out against the incident, which was also condemned by the Kick It Out organisation.
But at Saturday’s National League North match with Worksop, Hereford fans made their feelings clear.
The Hereford United Supporters Trust Calls had called on them to ‘Show Racism The Red Card’.
Suppoerters were handed a red card at the game with instructions as to what to do.
As the players walked out onto the pitch and up until kick-off, the cards were held high.
The Trust said: “Together, we can turn Edgar Street into a sea of red and send a strong message – there is no place for racism or discrimination at our club or in our community.
“A banner will also be displayed at the front of the Meadow End to reinforce this important message.
“This is our chance to stand united as fans and show what Hereford FC represents.”
“It was a feeling of pride first and foremost to look up at the crowd before the game.
“The way we’ve conducted ourselves as a football club from the players right through to the chairman and the board and supporters has set an example now.
“So that’s the bare minimum. We’ve made a stand and we’ve stuck together as football clubs.
“We just don’t want it. We know that all the spotlight will be about what happened last week, but it’s now important to move on and let the relevant authorities to deal with it.
“I don’t think I’m talking out of turn here or that I’m being unfair, but I think that, if I’m being brutal, there’s not many people outside of Heredford that will want us to win oin Tuesday.
“I absolutely understand that, I get it. We have to conduct ourselves and be professional on the football pitch, take care of the football game.”
