HALESOWEN Town ‘took out their frustration’ on Grimsby Borough to secure their place in the FA Cup Third Round Qualifying – with Jason Cowley hitting a hat-trick.
After Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Lincolnshire, the Yeltz fired six goals past the Northern Premier League Division One East side.
Halesowen won 6-1 at The Grove and will now host Aveley in the next round.
Cowley opened the scoring from the penalty spot before adding two more in the second half.
Charlie Wragg – with two goals – and Kyle Finn were also on target.
Yeltz No2 Gary Whild told the club’s official website: “In the FA Cup, you want to get into the next round, and that was always on our mind.
“We’re delighted. The lads were frustrated by recent games and took it out on Grimsby.
“It was great to see Jason score a hat-trick and Charlie get a couple, as it gives them confidence to get more and more.
“They were both a handful. As was as Milan’s passing and defensive work in his less so natural position at centre half.
“The pitch was excellent, which helped us get the ball out wide and work it forward. That was a big factor in why we looked so sharp. Our pitch is one of, if not the best around.”
But there was heartbreak for Chasetown who lost to Banbury United 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out.
After Saturday’s goal-less draw, the Scholars travelled to Oxfordshire and took a 10th minute lead through Luke Yates.
But Banbury levelled through Luke Stokoe and the game was decided from the spot.
After Saturday’s six-goal thriller on Saturday, Evesham United needed just one to decided their replay with Racing Club Warwick.
Lewis Middleton grabbed the winner with 19 minutes left – and Evesham now go to National League North side AFC Telford in the next round.
