CITY OF BIRMINGHAM Rockets will be part of a ‘pivotal moment for British basketball’ next season.

The men’s first team are to compete in British Championship Basketball (BCB) as one of the founding member clubs.

The league, comprised of 13 former NBL Division One clubs and the promoted Bristol Academy Flyers, has been created to ‘transform the landscape of basketball in the United Kingdom’.

Kirk Dawes, spokesperson for the BCB clubs, said: “This is a pivotal moment for British basketball.

“We believe in the incredible potential of the sport in the UK.

“With a professionally run, club-led league, we aim to build something that not only develops talent, but also drives commercial success and deepens engagement with fans and communities across the country.”

Rockets CEO, Robert Palmer, added: “We are excited to be involved as a founding member of the new British Championship Basketball league.

“This opportunity presents a great platform for British talent to excel and a fabulous product for the public to enjoy in line with our ethos.

“With the season fast approaching, we are now looking forward to sharing fixture, ticketing and roster announcements with our fanbase very soon!”

As part of its long-term vision, BCB adds it also plans to expand in future seasons to include clubs from Scotland and Wales, creating a truly national competition that reflects the full breadth of British basketball.

BCB says its mission is clear: to build a vibrant, inclusive, and aspirational league that nurtures talent, empowers clubs, and connects communities — from grassroots to the professional stage.

Further details about the league’s inaugural season, including structure, schedule, and participating teams, will be announced soon.
