THIS week Martyn reflects on a weekend when Birmingham Rockets’ great run of results ended at Milton Keynes. But there will no time to dwell too much on that game as they are back in action at home to Derby Trailblazers on Friday night – and the season is still very much alive. NOTE: Birmingham returned to winning ways with a 71-55 win!

IT had to happen eventually I suppose, but our nine game winning run came to an end last Saturday.
We went to Milton Keynes Breakers hoping to take the sequence into double figures – but it wasn’t to be.
It was a setback, but not the kind of result to take away the momentum of what we’re doing this season.
The game went into overtime and we missed out in a tight finish. But that shows how much we’re improving as a team – there will be times when we lose, but it’s always been close, with us pushing for a result.
I don’t think we’ve lost by more than five points, we’ve always been within reach.

We’ve played Breakers four times now this season and beaten them in three matches.
As always, we learned lessons from how things went here and we’ll take them into the rest of the season.
But we’re back at home on Friday when we’ll hope to get a great atmosphere going against Derby Trailblazers.
It’s important we bounce back but there are going to be a lot of games against the teams around us now at the top of the table.

Our first games in March are against Reading Rockets, again at home, before we go to Newcastle Knights.
So it’s all to play for, and we know that if we win all of our games, then we win the league.
That’s how we want it, so we won’t let one defeat get in the way too much.

We look at the positives every time there’s a defeat, you have to do that. As a team, we are self, we know we know our limitations, but we also know our capabilities and how to make ourselves better
As for Derby they’re a great side. We’ve played them very early on in the season, and they’ve gone up and down with their losses and wins.
Hopefully we can catch them and make it a good Friday night, something we’re trialling and hopefully it persuades a few more fans to come down and watch us.
Derby are one of my former teams of course – I still talk to a lot of their players. Their head coach is someone I used to play alongside. I’m still close and I still love seeing all the guys that will come down here.
I’m still very fond of the club and its people. So, it should be a good night.
We’re trying to build up our fan base to give something for the Birmingham people to admire and look up to.
