SATURDAY will be a huge milestone for everyone connected with City of Birmingham Rockets.
Our appearance in the BCB Trophy Final in Nottingham marks the first time a basketball team from the city has reached this level.
Comparisons have been made with the famous Birmingham Bullets team from years ago – and we received something special from some of their former players this week.

Our squad were sent good luck messages from people such as George Branch, Clive Allen, Fabulous Flournoy and Nick Nurse, who’s obviously an NBA coach now.
That meant a lot to me personally as I grew up watching the Bullets and hoping that, one day, I might be like those guys.
And that’s what happened. I hope I can inspire the next generation and continue on the legacy of Birmingham basketball.
It was a great gesture and something to boost us even more before the final against Yorkshire Dragons.

It’s a little bit of history for us – we want to win, but getting to a game like this only raises our profile in the city even higher.
Not only that, we have confirmed our place in this season’s play-offs – despite Sunday’s defeat by Reading – which is progress from last year.
There’s been a real buzz about the game and we can’t wait to play it.
Yorkshire are in streaky form right now, winning some and losing some. We’re keeping an eye on how they’re playing, but for the most part, it’s a final and anything can happen.

But I said this to everyone this week, getting to finals is an extremely difficult feat.
Not everybody gets to do it. In my career, I’ve only been in six or seven finals, which is really good for me, but at the end of the day, I’ve been playing for the last 20 odd years.
So there have been some empty seasons of not accomplishing those kind of things,
Now we have a chance to go down in history, but it’s still a mark in the record books that we were there and we had a chance to take it.
There’s a good feeling about it, everyone’s ready, everyone’s upbeat. And it means a lot to our chief executive Rob Palmer.
He’s been around Birmingham basketball for a very long time now. His journey has been a little bit different to mine, but we all want to be part of it. Here’s hoping we can lift that trophy.
