THIS week Martyn takes a look back at another thrilling game in Nechells, but one that the Rockets again came out of on the wrong end. While they play Yorkshire Dragons in the Trophy Final later in the season, their main target is the play-offs.

IT’S going to be an important build-up to the Christmas and New Year spell of games as we aim to stay on course for this season’s play-offs.
Last Saturday was another exciting game in front of our home fans against Yorkshire Dragons, but as against Essex Rebels, we missed out after a great match.
Like we’ve always said, we provide a great game for the neutrals – and even our fans – to watch, to be honest with you.
We didn’t shoot well, but we still did things that were good, we still competed.
So for the most part, it was a good game, but we were on the bad end of it.
Of course, it was a chance for us to check on the Dragons, who we will play in the Trophy Final later this season.

They’re really good at what they’re doing. So we need to find ways of disrupting their games and we’ll plan for that when it comes around.
But for us, the most important game is the one that’s next. So that’s how we’ve been thinking this season. We can’t do anything about the last game.
We had a good conversations this week though. We had a good week of practice.
But there were positives and excellent performances from Zach Powell, with 32 points, and Ron Blain, 18.
Ron’s been very consistent over the season, so he’s getting all the numbers and doing his job. We can’t really ask much more from him. It’s the rest of us that need to do better.
It was a real standup performance from Zach, who shot the ball really well, really efficiently and it was an amazing weekend from him.
But the play-offs are where we need to be. I’ve spoken to other people about this.

It’s great to be in a trophy final, and hopefully we can come away with some silverware for the club and the city.
But for the longevity of what we do, we need to be making the playoffs. We have to be a playoff team. We have to play play-off level basketball.
That starts during the season and it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
But first, we have to take on London Cavaliers on Saturday night. They’re doing really well this season. They have a really good roster and a really good coaching team. So it’ll be a great test for us, we just need to perform and follow the game.
